A Wii @ Your Library? Whii Not? (Diana Maliszewski)

Playing games in the library?? I had the opportunity to experience this Prezi presentation in person from Diana herself and she has me convinced....or at least I am willing to test the waters by including some games in the library this year.  Will you play too?

It's A Book (Lane Smith)

It's A Book is about a book-loving monkey, a tech savvy donkey, and a straight-talking little mouse.  The debate between real vs. digital continues...
This is a great book to show young learners and discuss the progression from traditional texts to virtual ones.

Joy, Not Duty: Reading and Libraries (Sylva Šimsová)

Joy, Not Duty: Reading and Libraries. APLIS 21 (3), 109-114

This article is a good read for current and future librarians.  In an increasing digital world, electronic texts and books are becoming the norm, the author presents ideas about the purpose of reading, and the important role that libraries and librarians play in meeting their users' rapidly changing reading and social needs.

"A good librarian must be able, as a professional, to undergo rapid, chameleon like, changes as one enquirer follows another" (Foskett 1962).

"The best way to serve our users is to try to understand them, to ensure that they are aware of their reading needs: to promote the joy, not the duty, of reading" (Simsova 2008).
