Solve the Mystery of Grandma’s Thumb

What happened to the Grandmother’s thumb?
Roald Dahl never tells us, so now you can decide. Did it happen as a little girl or when
she was older as a witchophile? Write about her encounter with a witch and how she lost
her thumb by clicking on comments below this post.  Once you have answered the question, raise your hand to have Mrs. Doerr read through your response to make sure it is a level 4 and then hit submit (as many times as you need to get the message "your comment will be visible after moderation") and then you can check out the neat info and games on Roald Dahl's site, or the reading games on primarygames.com.

A Riddle

I am small as an ant and big as a whale,
I can soar through the air like a bird with a tail.
I can be seen by day and not by night,
I can be seen with a big flash of light.
I follow whoever controls me by the sun,
but I fade away when dark fell like a ton.

What am I?

The Witches by Roald Dahl

Right now we are reading The Witches by Roald Dahl.
This Roald Dahl classic tells the scary, funny and imaginative tale of a seven-year-old boy who has a run-in with some real-life witches! "In fairy tales witches always wear silly black hats and black cloaks and they ride on broomsticks. But this is not a fairy tale. This is about REAL WITCHES. REAL WITCHES dress in ordinary clothes and look very much like ordinary women. They live in ordinary houses and they work in ordinary jobs. That is why they are so hard to catch." Witches, as our hero learns, hate children. With the help of a friend and his somewhat-magical grandmother, our hero tries to expose the witches before they dispose of him (goodreads.com).
